The World Health Organisation's Director-General met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in the virus-affected country, according to an organisation spokesperson, as the death toll from the new infection rose above 100 in the nation.
In a news conference in Geneva on Tuesday, Christian Lindmeier said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus also had talks with the country's Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Health Minister.
Ghebreyesus spoke about the "health of Chinese and foreigners in outbreak areas" in his meetings with the Chinese government officials, according to Lindmeier.
Lindmeier said Ghebreyesus had left Geneva on Sunday and was expected to leave China on Tuesday night.
The infection has killed at least 106 people in China in recent weeks and forced the lockdown of 50 million people in the nation.
