Who is Andy Kim? First Korean-American Joins US Senate After Defeating New Jersey's Tammy Murphy

Who is Andy Kim?
Son of immigrant parents, Andy is a 42-year-old Democrat born on 12 July 1982 in Boston and raised in South Jersey. He studied political science at University of Chicago and at Magdalen College, Oxford. Shortly afterwards, Kim also worked as a civilian advisor at Department of State, serving in Afghanistan under Obama Administration.
Kim served as US representative from New Jersey's third congressional district since 2019. He also worked in US Department before his election to Congress in 2018.

His journey to Senate began after Menendez was convicted of peddling his political influence for bribes of gold bars, $48,000 in cash and a luxurious Mercedes-Benz convertible.
Despite Murphy's powerful campaign, Kim prevailed by emphasising on need to dismantle entrenched "line" system on New Jersey ballots, which favoured candidates backed by political bosses.
