WHO chief says COVID-19 '10 times deadlier' than H1N1 swine flu

“The measures have to be lifted slowly and with control”, WHO chief Tedros was reported as saying. "It cannot happen all at once", he warned the countries.

In an online briefing from Geneva, WHO chief Tedros ham Ghebreyesus said that vel coronavirus is over "10 times delier" than H1N1 swine flu strain that sparked a pandemic in 2010 worldwide. sole means to halt outbreak would be a vaccine, he ded. toll from Swine flu could be estimated to be nearly 151,700 and 575,400, as per official Lancet data. 

“Evidence from several countries is giving us a clearer picture about this virus, how it (coronavirus) behaves, how to stop it and how to treat it,” Tedros was quoted as saying. “We kw that COVID-19 spres fast, and we kw that it is dely – 10 times delier than 2009 flu pandemic.”

While disease has infected over 1,925,179 globally and has killed nearly 119,701, effective technique to halt spre, except for confinement measures, has been researched, as of yet. Even n, social distancing measures cant be loosened prematurely, according to WHO.

Strike a balance

Stressing on balance between ecomic crisis and impact of disease,  chief of UN Health Body stated, “As pandemic has spre, its public health and socioecomic impacts have been profound, and have disproportionately affected vulnerable. Many populations have alrey experienced a lack of access to routine, essential health services”.

WHO emphasized on ramping up overwhelmed healthcare systems, on sidelines of mending social-ecomic impacts of  pandemic outbreak. Tedros issued a caution to  nations worldwide against restarting ecomy and exhorted leers to work in close co-operation to stem possibility of resurgence of disease despite containment measures.
