World Health Organization (WHO) on Saturday warned that coronavirus pandemic is likely to be “lengthy”. During emergency committee meeting, members 'highlighted anticipated lengthy duration of COVID-19 pandemic' and warned of risk of 'response fatigue' given socio-ecomic pressures on countries, WHO said in its statement.
emergency committee panel gared for fourth time in Geneva to evaluate crisis situation six months after sounding international alarm- public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC) which is WHO’s highest level of alarm.

According to WHO global risk level of COVID-19 to be very high as it is continuously monitoring situation. Furr, panel comprising of 18 members and 12 visers, also unanimously agreed that pandemic still constituted a PHEIC.

Emergency committee warns against fatigue crisis
In a bid to contain dely coronavirus, several countries around world have imposed strict lockdowns that have versely affected ecomies. committee requested WHO to provide practical guidance on COVID-19 reactions to reduce risk of response fatigue in context of socio-ecomic pressures. It also urged WHO to support countries in preparing for rollout of proven vaccines and rapeutics.
emergency committee also appealed to ncy to expedite research into remaining crucial unkwns of virus, like animal source and potential animal reservoirs.

Pandemic effects ‘felt for deces’- Dr Tedros
WHO chief Tedros ham Ghebreyesus furr called COVID-19 pandemic a ‘once-in-a-century’ health crisis and said that its effects would be long-lasting. Ghebreyesus said that it is sobering to think that six months ago when world recommended declaring a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC), re were less than 100 cases and death outside China.

Meanwhile, WHO has been heavily criticized for delay to declare an international emergency. United States has also accused organization of being too close to China and has officially withdrawn from WHO in July. It has been also criticized for recommendations considered late or contrictory, in particular on wearing masks, or modes of transmission of virus.
