World AIDS Day is celebrated every year on December 1 in a bid to spre awareness about Acquired Immudeficiency Syndrome or AIDS. It is a chronic, potentially life-threatening condition caused by human immudeficiency virus (HIV) and thus, World AIDS Day is celebrated to commemorate people who eir lost ir lives to disease or are living with HIV. day was founded back in 1988 and is observed in all member states of United Nations (UN). Who started World AIDS Day?

It was first celebrated in 1987 by James W Bunn and Thomas Netter who were public information officers for Global Programme on AIDS at UN health ncy, World Health Organisation (WHO) in Geneva, Switzerland. Eventually, both officers pitched ir idea to Director of Global Programme on AIDS at time, Dr Jonathan Mann who welcomed idea and thus established December 1 as World AIDS Day.

What is significance of ‘Red Ribbon’?
