Yemen: Ferry with 55 people on board missing near Socotra island

In Yemen, a ferry with 55 people on board went missing near Socotra islands on Sunday. The Saudi-led coalition have been communicated to get help in the rescue.

Yemen authorities have informed that a ferry carrying at least 55 people has gone missing in Indian Ocean near Yemen's eastern coast. incident was reported by local authorities in Socotra Island. y furr informed that ferry that's owned by a local trer left country's province of Mahrah on Wednesday but failed to arrive on time. This raised suspicion after which boat was searched in region.

"We received a report on Saturday that a ferry went missing after leaving port of Mahrah towards Socotra Island with 55 people on board," Socotra's local authority said in a statement to media.

Socotra authorities seek Saudi-led coalition's help

Saudi-led Arab coalition's military units have a presence in Yemen's eastern provinces including Mahrah in an attempt to enhance security and combat smuggling operations. Or Yemeni security units backed by United Arab Emirates (UAE) are also present in country's Island of Socotra. UAE and Saudi Arabia led a military coalition to intervene in Yemen's civil war in 2015 to restore government of President Hi. island's authorities said that y h me all necessary communications with coalition for rescue of boat. 

"We me necessary communications with Saudi-led coalition after receiving information about ferry that went missing and a search and rescue operation was launched," a local official ded.

Socotra is located between Guardafui Channel and Arabian Sea. It is largest of four islands in Socotra archipelago. territory is located near major shipping routes and is officially part of Yemen, and was earlier a subdivision of en Goverrate. Later in 2004, it became attached to Hhramaut Governate, which is much closer to island than en. Finally, in 2013, archipelago became its own goverrate, Socotra Governate. island is a UNESCO world natural herit site protected by UN body for its unique flora and fauna.
