Cars have been one the greatest inventions of all time. They have helped countries win wars and have also has helped make transportation easy. Many car manufacturers were the shapeshifters of the industrial revolution. From Ford, who changed the way factories worked, to Volkswagen who wanted to make a small family car, all these brands had a philosophy. Their philosophies were seen in their names and brand logos.
Here are a few such brands whose names and logos share their company philosophy:
Mercedes-Benz
Mercedes-Benz was founded by Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft and Karl Benz, who were regarded as the people who invented the first petrol-powered automobile. The name Mercedes-Benz is an amalgamation of two words, Mercedes and Benz. Mercedes was the daughter of one of the founders, Emil Jellinek. The last name of Karl Benz was taken for the brand. The three-pointed star logo was adapted seven years after the launch of the brand. The logo represents domination of the Mercedes-Benz over land, sea, and air, with each prong representing an element.
Volkswagen
Volkswagen originated in Nazi Germany under the order of Adolf Hitler. Hitler asked Ferdinand Porsche to design a car which can carry four people (a family) and also accommodate their luggage. The project was known as the 'People's Car Project,' which was in German translated to ‘Volks,’ which meant folk or people in general, and ‘Wagen’ which meant car. This is how one of today's biggest car companies got its name. Volkswagen today owns car brands like Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porsche, and many others under its umbrella.
Lamborghini
This Italian supercar brand is owned by Volkswagen. The company was founded by Ferruccio Lamborghini after he had a feud with Enzo Ferrari, the owner of Ferrari motors. Ferruccio Lamborghini was one of the biggest tractor manufactures of Italy and was a car enthusiast. He bought a Ferrari because of his car enthusiasm but found a defect in the clutch of a Ferrari. After this, Lamborghini went to talk to Enzo about the problem and Enzo insulted by Ferruccio Lamborghini by telling him just to make tractors and not teach him to make cars. Ferruccio Lamborghini got angry by this and decided to make a car of his own. Today, the raging bull logo of Lamborghini is a global icon in supercars. Its cars like Countach, Gallardo, Murcielago, and Aventador have changed the way the world of cars looked at aerodynamics.
