Boeing India to unveil a 43-acre complex in Devanahalli: Reports

Boeing India is set to open a 43-acre complex within the Aerospace Park in Devanahalli, near Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru, according to media reports. The move comes after the company announced its plan to open the second campus outside of Virginia in January this year. With a substantial investment of Rs 1,600 crore, the Devanahalli complex will become Boeing's largest facility outside of the United States. Boeing India further aims to increase its annual sourcing from India to Rs 10,000 crore, from the current Rs 8,000 crore, the reports added.

Boeing India is headquartered in New Delhi. The company maintains field service offices in locations such as Mumbai, Hindan, and Rajali. Additionally, the Boeing India Engineering & Technology Center (BIETC) in Bengaluru and Chennai is experiencing rapid growth, further solidifying Boeing's commitment to its operations in India.

Boeing unveils Aatmanirbhar Bharat Vision for P-8I Aircraft

In a separate announcement, Boeing has underscored its substantial strides in indigenising the manufacturing and maintenance of its P-8I maritime surveillance aircraft, shedding light on the platform's future prospects as part of its Aatmanirbhar Bharat strategy.

Currently, 12 P-8I aircraft serve the Indian Navy's reconnaissance and surveillance needs in the Indo-Pacific region. The company's contribution to this endeavour has resulted in a substantial economic impact of $1.7 billion, supporting the existing P-8I fleet in service with the Indian Navy.

Boeing further plans to expand the fleet to 18 aircraft. This expansion is expected to bring about approximately $1.5 billion in investments while creating new opportunities for indigenisation within India's aerospace and defence sector by 2032.

Salil Gupte, President of Boeing India, expressed the company's commitment to India's vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, emphasising the aim to enhance engineering, manufacturing, and sustainment capabilities in India to benefit both Indian and global customers.

Since its induction in 2013, the P-8I aircraft, based on the 737 Next Generation platform, has become an integral part of the Indian Navy's fleet, accumulating over 40,000 flight hours with high mission readiness rates. Boeing further claims to have played a pivotal role in establishing advanced training facilities like the Ashok Roy Training Simulator Complex at INS Rajali and the Kochi training complex, which includes a cutting-edge simulator for P-8I aircrew and technical team training. These ground-based training facilities reduce on-aircraft training time, enhancing mission proficiency and aircraft availability for the Indian Navy.

Dan Gillian, Vice President and General Manager of Mobility, Surveillance, and Bombers at Boeing Defense, Space & Security, expressed pride in partnering with the Indian Navy, highlighting the P-8's multi-mission capabilities and its significance in bolstering interoperability and maritime security in India and the Indo-Pacific. Boeing is also committed to expanding its P-8 supplier network in India, which currently includes 15 public and private Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises that contribute crucial parts, components, and services to the P-8 programme.

The globally proven P-8 fleet, comprising over 160 aircraft with more than 5,00,000 mishap-free flight hours worldwide, is employed by various allies, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Norway, South Korea, and Germany.
