Cyient inks pact with Centre of Excellence in Maritime and Shipbuilding to upskill workforce

Software company Cyient on Friday entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Centre of Excellence in Maritime and Shipbuilding (CEMS) to boost the skills of students and build a competent workforce in areas such as computer-aided design (CAD), computer-aided engineering (CAE PLM), and electrical system development, aligning with the needs of the maritime industry.
Sarbananda Sonowal, the Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Ayush, recently unveiled a Comprehensive Plan to increase the country's port capacity to over 10,000 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) by 2047. The Indian government has also identified investment opportunities exceeding Rs 10 lakh crores in the maritime sector, potentially creating more than 15 lakh employment opportunities.
The partnership between CEMS and Cyient will facilitate the exchange of knowledge and expertise between the faculty of CEMS and members of Cyient, the company said in a statement. This collaboration will result in the development of effective teaching and training systems, the enhancement of laboratories and technologies, all tailored to industry requirements.
Prabhakar Shetty, Chief Digital Officer at Cyient, emphasised the importance of a robust technology infrastructure in the maritime industry. He highlighted how digital innovations, such as 3D modelling, intelligent products, AI-driven maintenance, and sustainable energy solutions, are transforming vessel design, construction, and maintenance. Shetty stressed the significance of adopting new-age applications and best practices to drive the industry forward.
This MoU is expected to drive innovation and progress in the ever-evolving landscape of the modern industry.
