India's exports rise by 2.56% to $35.2 billion in June
Imports increased by about 5% to $56.18 billion in June, up from $53.51 billion a year ago. This resulted in a trade deficit of $20.98 billion for the month.
India's merchandise exports saw a 2.56 per cent rise in June to $35.2 billion compared to $34.32 billion in the same month last year, according to government data released on Monday.
Imports increased by about 5 per cent to $56.18 billion in June, up from $53.51 billion a year ago. This resulted in a trade deficit of $20.98 billion for the month.
Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal, while briefing the media on the data, mentioned that based on the current trend, India's total exports of goods and services could surpass $800 billion this fiscal year. He noted that exports of goods and services stood at approximately $200 billion during the first quarter of 2024-25.
In May, India's merchandise exports had risen by 9.1 per cent to $38.13 billion, despite the trade deficit widening to a seven-month high of $23.78 billion. For the April-June period of this fiscal year, exports increased by 5.84 per cent to $109.96 billion, while imports grew by 7.6 per cent to $172.23 billion.
