NLC India's construction-grade sand plant to start operations in January
The plant will use mining waste to produce construction-grade sand, addressing the shortage of natural sand.
State-owned lignite producer NLC India announced on Wednesday that its upcoming plant, designed to manufacture construction-grade sand from mine overburden, is slated to commence operations by the end of January. The plant aims to utilise waste generated during mining operations to produce civil construction-grade sand, addressing the scarcity of natural sand.
According to a stock exchange filing, the facility is projected to yield approximately 2.62 lakh cubic meters of civil construction-grade M-sand annually from mine overburden. The company expects the plant to be fully operationalised by the end of January 2024.
NLC India outlined plans to install similar high-capacity plants in other mines within Neyveli, Tamil Nadu, in due course. The company reported that the Bhoomi Puja for the proposed OB to M-Sand Plant at Mine-IA in Neyveli was conducted on December 12.
Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, the CMD of the company, said that the contract for execution had already been awarded, emphasising the environmentally friendly aspect of the initiative. Motupalli also indicated potential future expansions of this eco-friendly approach.
