ONDC forecasts 30–40 million transactions by March 2025
The open network witnessed 10 million transactions in June, up from over 7 million in March.
ONDC monthly transactions: The Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) anticipates a significant increase in monthly transactions, projecting 30 to 40 million by March 2025, according to CEO T. Koshy. This projection follows a notable rise in transactions, with the platform recording 10 million in June, up from over 7 million in March.
“In March 2024, we had over 7 million transactions. By June, this number had grown to 10 million. By the end of the fiscal year, we expect monthly transactions to reach 30 to 40 million,” Koshy stated at a Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) event.
Koshy also mentioned that ONDC currently hosts 500,000 to 600,000 merchants, with expectations of significant growth in the coming months. The ONDC, established to democratise India’s e-commerce landscape, aims to boost the digital economy by providing a unified platform for sellers and buyers.
The announcement was made during the MSME Growth Summit, organised by the CII. At the summit, Sameer Gupta, Chairman of the CII National MSME Council, highlighted the importance of initiatives like Digital Saksham in transforming the industry. Gupta emphasised the critical role of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in achieving the vision of a 'New India,' noting their contribution of 30 per cent to the GDP and 40 per cent to exports.
The growth of ONDC is seen as a crucial step in bolstering India’s digital commerce ecosystem, providing more opportunities for small and medium businesses to expand their reach. As the network grows, it is expected to have a significant economic impact, fostering innovation and competitiveness in the e-commerce sector.
With the government’s backing and the increasing number of merchants joining the platform, ONDC is poised to become a major player in India’s digital marketplace. The projected increase in transactions underscores the platform's potential to revolutionise the e-commerce industry, offering a more inclusive and efficient marketplace for all stakeholders.
