YouTube personalised ads: With the release of iOS 14.5, Apple required app developers to inform users about broader tracking practices and obtain their consent through an opt-in mechanism. In 2021, Google adapted by ceasing certain tracking methods (IDFA) to comply and avoid displaying this prompt. Soon, YouTube will ask iOS users to opt into "more personalised advertising" through an App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt.

In the near future, YouTube for iOS will present a one-time permission request: “Allow YouTube to track your activity across other companies’ apps and websites?” Users will have two options:

Allow

If you enable this setting, your activity on YouTube will be linked with activity from non-Google apps and websites to show personalised ads and provide ad measurement.

This choice will apply to all users of the YouTube app on the device where the setting is turned on.

Ask app not to track

If you disable this setting, your activity on YouTube will not be linked with activity from non-Google apps and websites, resulting in less personalised ads and potentially more repeated ads.

The prompt will not appear for YouTube Premium subscribers and users with child accounts on YouTube.

By choosing "Allow," YouTube assures users of a "high-quality, helpful ads experience," with advertising that better reflects user interests due to more accurate ad measurements. This is achieved by linking YouTube activity with non-Google apps and websites.
