In a stark revelation, Border Security Force (BSF) Director General Nitin Agrawal emphasized the heightened attempts from across the border to infiltrate militants before the onset of winter and the closure of tracks due to heavy snowfall. Addressing reporters after attending a passing out parade at the Subsidiary Training Centre (STC) Kashmir, Agrawal assured that security forces are on high alert and ready to thwart any infiltration bids.

Agrawal disclosed that such attempts are an annual occurrence, as the other side endeavors to maximize infiltrations before snowfall obstructs their paths. "We are alert. I visited the LoC, met my troops and Army officers. They are vigilant, and if there is any infiltration attempt, we will foil it," stated the DG BSF.

Despite the continuous efforts from across the border, Agrawal highlighted the success of security forces in thwarting infiltration designs every year. He pointed out the desperation of the infiltrators, citing an encounter in Shopian resulting in the death of a terrorist.

Ceasefire violation in Samba: DG BSF vows strategic response

Responding to recent ceasefire violations in Samba district of Jammu, Agrawal revealed that Pakistani troops targeted BSF posts multiple times, injuring a BSF trooper. While acknowledging the effective retaliation by BSF forces, he mentioned that severe damage might have occurred on the other side. Tragically, the injured BSF head constable later succumbed to his injuries, underscoring the toll these cross-border skirmishes can take on the brave men defending the borders.

Addressing concerns about the impact of firing incidents on the ceasefire, Agrawal stated that such events have been transpiring for the past two weeks, and the reasons behind them are yet unknown. The DG BSF affirmed ongoing discussions to understand the motives and devise a strategy accordingly. He emphasized the difficulty in predicting the situation's escalation and assured that BSF forces effectively retaliate whenever necessary.

Firing as a cover for Infiltration? DG BSF responds

Responding to queries about whether firing incidents serve as a cover for pushing in more infiltrators, Agrawal noted that along the International Border, the chances of infiltration are lower. However, he acknowledged the newness of firing incidents in certain areas, excluding the Arnia sector where such occurrences were more common in the past.

Dispelling concerns about major activities across the border, the DG BSF clarified that while there is no evidence of significant undertakings, any activities conducted by infiltrators are likely to be kept secret.

Earlier, Agrawal inspected the passing out parade and attestation ceremony of five batches of recruits, highlighting the diverse geographical representation of trainees from eastern and southern India. The situation remains tense as security forces maintain their vigilance along the borders, prepared for any challenges that may arise in the coming winter months.
