"The entire world is passing through the phase of an economic slowdown. We are on the top of the list of the best performing countries. The government has taken steps and measures to provide economic relief. The merger of banks and relief to the manufacturing and automobile sectors are such steps."
The minister's statement comes amid the Indian economy recording its slowest GDP growth rate in 6.5 years in Q1, at 5%.

Replying to a question related to Jammu and Kashmir, the Jal Shakti minister has said that people there have supported the government's move and there is "nearly 90 percent attendance" in schools, other institutions, government, and private offices in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh now. He added that "world leaders stood by India on its decision to remove article 370 and 35A from the Constitution" and that Pakistan was isolated on various global platforms. He further stated that Pakistan was responsible for its image as a country that sponsored terrorism and that the Indian forces were capable and free to give a befitting reply to Pakistan as was done earlier through the surgical strike and airstrike.
Congress takes on Modi Government
On the contrary, the Congress party had purported that there had been no development in the first 100 days of the NDA government.
Kapil Sibal, Congress's senior spokesperson said that the Government's 100 days in office have been characterized by "arrogance, uncertainty, and vendetta politics". Sibal further attacked dispensation over issues such as the state of the economy, the situation in Kashmir, the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam, and action by probe agencies against Opposition leaders.
