New Delhi: The Supreme Court has ruled out the Re-NEET plea and said the exam will not be conducted again. The bench, led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, heard the plea from candidates demanding a re-examination for all students affected by the paper leak. The court said that there is no evidence to prove there was a systematic leak. However, the court observed that the leak took place in Hazaribagh and Patna.

During the hearing, the bench emphasized the necessity of providing certainty and finality to a dispute impacting the futures of over 2 million students. While the detailed reasons for the court's conclusions will follow later, the essential conclusions were recorded at this stage due to the urgency of the matter.

The court acknowledged that the NEET-UG paper leak occurred in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, and Patna, Bihar. Following the transfer of the investigation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has submitted status reports on July 10, July 17, and July 21, 2024. These reports indicate that the investigation is ongoing, but it is currently known that 155 students from the exam centres in Hazaribagh and Patna benefited from the fraud.

Despite the ongoing investigation, the Supreme Court required the Union government to indicate its stance. In conclusion, the court has decided against conducting a re-exam for NEET-UG. This decision aims to maintain stability and avoid further uncertainty for the millions of students whose careers are at stake.

The ruling comes amid widespread concern over the integrity of the NEET-UG examination process. The CBI's investigation continues, and more updates are expected as the probe progresses.
