New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced substantial changes for the upcoming 2024 board exams for Classes 10 and 12, aiming to bring about a more holistic and student-centric approach.

Exam Schedule and Timings:

The board exams for Classes 10 and 12 are scheduled to take place between February 15 and April 2, 2024. A notable change is the uniform starting time for all exams at 10:30 AM (IST), ensuring consistency and a standardized beginning.

Marking Scheme Breakdown:

CBSE has provided a detailed breakdown of the marking scheme for both Class 10 and Class 12 board exams. The marking criteria cover theory, practicals, projects, and internal assessments. With each subject having a maximum of 100 marks, specific details have been outlined for 83 subjects in Class 10 and 121 subjects in Class 12.

In Class 10, subjects like Music, Painting, Computer, Retail, and Information Technology will incorporate practical exams contributing to 50 marks. Core subjects such as English, Hindi, Math, Science, and Social Science will allocate 20 marks for internal assessment.

For Class 12, the practical marks vary, ranging from 30 in subjects like Geography, Psychology, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Biotechnology, to 50 in subjects like Painting, Graphics, Sculpture, Dance, and Home Science.

The comprehensive marking scheme for all subjects is available on the CBSE website.

Introduction of Two Board Exams Annually:

One of the most significant changes is the introduction of two board exams annually for Classes 10 and 12. This move aims to offer students more opportunities to enhance their scores, promoting continuous improvement and allowing them to retain their highest marks. The initiative reflects a broader effort to enrich the overall educational experience.

Focus on Extracurricular Activities:

Recognizing the importance of holistic development, CBSE is offering additional support for extracurricular activities. This step underscores the board's commitment to fostering a well-rounded education, acknowledging the significance of both academic and non-academic pursuits in a student's growth.

Students are advised to stay updated on the CBSE website for further announcements and information related to the 2024 examination, as well as any additional changes in the pattern. The modifications are geared towards creating a more student-friendly and comprehensive examination system.
