NEET -PG Hearing in Supreme Court: The Supreme Court of India will today resume the hearing of the plea challenging the decision of the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) to make last-minute changes to the exam pattern of NEET -PG, just three days before the exam date. The plea also challenges NBE's refusal to release the answer keys and candidates' response sheets for the NEET-PG 2024 exam. A bench led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud will hear the case today.In the last hearing of the case on September 20, the CJI expressed dissatisfaction with the NBE's move to revise the exam pattern three days before the exam, causing stress to the students. "They claim you haven't framed regulations; everything relies on the brochure, and just three days before the exam, the entire pattern is changed—how can you do this?" CJI had questioned NBE's counsel. NEET -PG Marks Normalisation Method Also Challenged“The normalisation procedure has completely altered the ranks that students expected to obtain based on their performance in the examination and it has led to clumping of students at each decimal, which would not have happened in case of counting of actual marks. Thus, the specialities will be exhausted on account of some superficial criteria prescribed by the Respondents, which is not reflective of the best candidates available.”The plea also states that the exam was converted into a two-session examination with separate papers for each session which is against NBE's guidelines of having one common examination.“There is a clear lack of transparency in the conduct of examinations of NEET PG 2024 since none of the documents which can allow a student to check his/her performance are supplied by the Respondents i.e. neither the (a) question paper, nor (b) the Response sheet filled in by candidates, nor (c) Answer Key is supplied to the students, and merely a score card has been provided along with a list of attempted correctly/attempted wrongly sections. The students on perusal of the scorecards have found discrepancies in the total number of questions that they attempted which are found to be different than what is stated in the scorecards issued to them. Thus, there is a basic flaw in the conduct of the examinations which goes to the root of the matter. However, there is no redressal of the above, and an unfettered power has been vested in the Respondents to conduct examinations, without the necessary checks and balances.”Will NEET -PG Results Be Cancelled, Revised? As the petition challenging the whole exam is set to be heard, candidates are expecting relief from the top court. While some candidates on social media are expecting that the apex court might order NBE to release revised results with grace marks, others are expecting that a re-exam might be conducted. However, there has been no confirmation regarding the same and these are just speculations for now. Candidates who moved the court are demanding that NEET -PG answer keys and response sheets be released. MCC NEET -PG Counselling Schedule Amid the ongoing case, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has withheld the release of the NEET -PG counselling schedule. However, the registration for round 1 began on September 20. NBE conducted NEET-PG 2024 on August 11 in two shifts and the results were declared on August 23.
