Indian-American doctor duo dream better medical education in India

The Indian-American doctor duo dream to open a medical college hospital in Gujarat, in collaboration with NSU, to transform the way medical education functions

Indian-American doctor duo, Kiran Patel and Pallavi Patel, are touted to open a medical college hospital in collaboration with the Nova Southeastern University (NSU). The couple has teamed up with the Florida University to bring premier medical education in India. The initial investment is said to be around USD 200 million. This project is expected to alter the way medical education functions in the country. Kiran and Pallavi Patel have already acquired 50 hectares of land near Bharuch, Gujarat, to set up the medical college effectively.

Doctor duo in collaboration with NSU

Kiran Patel is a Zambia-born India-educated cardiologist. His wife Pallavi Patel is a paediatrician. The Patels plan on visiting India in October to discuss their ambitious vision with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This project is said to transform healthcare in India with technological advancements and efficiently trained doctors.

About Nova Southeastern University (NSU)  

The NSU in the meanwhile opens a brand new campus in Clearwater, near Tampa. This campus was just built in 17 months. The Patels eventually aim to set up three medical colleges that are to be located in rural areas. The students are also to receive their training in these medical colleges. Two of these medical colleges are said to offer Indian degrees with one offering a US degree. Patel has also planned to host live interactions between Tampa and India. The Patels have further envisaged bringing American professors and positioning them in India. At the same time, bringing Indian professors to the USA to train the trainers to academically produce students of the same calibre as those graduating in the USA.

Furthermore, Kiran Patel has also announced his future plans of starting medical colleges in Zambia. Patel envisages a future where he will extend his medical contributions to Africa. The US currently has two Nova institutions named after the Patels producing 625 graduates and India providing another 300. Kiran Patel has stated that the goal of the Indian-American doctor duo is to produce doctors all around the world to come forward and help people in a potentially 'borderless' world.
