QS World University Rankings 2025: IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi Climbs To Top-150 Ranks

QS World University Rankings 2025 has been released by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) on Tuesday, June 4, has brought good news for Indian academia, with both IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi securing positions in the prestigious Top 150 list.

IIT Bombay has showcased remarkable improvement compared to the 2024 rankings, clinching the 118th spot, while IIT Delhi has also demonstrated commendable progress, securing the 150th position. This achievement reflects the consistent efforts and academic excellence of these institutions.

QS World University Rankings 

In addition to the notable performance of IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi, other Indian universities have also made their mark in the QS World Rankings 2025. The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has seen a rise in its ranking, securing the 211th position. Following closely, IIT Kharagpur has claimed the 222nd spot, while IIT Madras stands at the 227th position. IIT Kanpur follows suit, securing the 263rd rank.

Further down the rankings, the University of Delhi has been listed, securing the 328th position, trailed by IIT Roorkee at 335th place and IIT Guwahati at 344th. Anna University has also made its presence felt, securing the 383rd position.

Adding to the roster, IIT Indore has secured the 477th spot, while IIT BHU follows at 531st position, and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) at the 580th rank.

The QS World Rankings are compiled based on various criteria including academic and employer reputation, faculty-student ratio, citations per faculty, and international faculty and student ratio, among others. Notably, new indicators such as sustainability, employability, and international research collaboration have been introduced, alongside the existing criteria, reflecting the evolving landscape of higher education.

The weightage allocated to each criterion has been meticulously determined, with academic reputation holding the highest weightage of 30%, followed by employer reputation at 15%, and faculty-student ratio at 10%. Citations per faculty, international faculty and student ratio, international research network, employment outcomes, and sustainability each hold a 5% weightage. This year's rankings reflect a shift in the global academic landscape, with institutions striving for excellence across various dimensions. The inclusion of Indian universities in the Top 150 list is a testament to the nation's commitment to fostering academic excellence and research innovation.

In the previous iteration of the rankings, Indian universities such as IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IISc Bangalore, IIT-KGP, IIT Kanpur, and IIT Madras had secured positions, further solidifying India's presence on the global academic stage.
