In response to the severe heatwave sweeping across Uttar Pradesh, the state government has extended the summer holidays for schools. As per the new schedule, schools will now remain closed for teachers until June 24 and for students until June 28.

Considering these appeals and the prevailing weather conditions, the Department of Basic Education has decided to extend the summer vacations. The Director General of School Education, Kanchan Verma, provided detailed information on this decision.

Initially, the vacation was set to end on June 18, but given the current situation and the demands from various teachers' associations, the government has decided to extend the holidays. The department has been closely monitoring the weather conditions to ensure that the decision is in the best interest of students and teachers.

Teacher associations in the state had been advocating for an extension of the holidays due to the extreme weather conditions. Vinay Kumar Singh, associated with a teachers' organization, had written to the Chief Minister and the Principal Secretary of Basic Education, urging them to consider the health risks posed by reopening schools on June 18 amid the intense heat and heatwave conditions.

In his letter, Singh highlighted the distress caused by the current heatwave across Uttar Pradesh, stating that it would not be appropriate to reopen schools in such adverse weather. He had requested that the summer vacations be extended until June 30 to ensure the safety and well-being of students and teachers.

Anil Yadav, the state president of the Uttar Pradesh BTC Teachers' Association, had also echoed these concerns in a letter to the Principal Secretary of Basic Education. Yadav emphasized the need to extend the summer break until June 30 due to the extreme heat affecting the entire state.
