BJP candidate for East Delhi Gautam Gambhir's election nomination is facing trouble after his contender and AAP candidate Atishi from AAP filed a criminal complaint against the cricketer-turned-politician at the Tis Hazari court on Thursday.
BJP candidate for East Delhi Gautam Gambhir's election nomination is in trouble as his contender and AAP candidate Atishi Marlena has filed a criminal complaint against the cricketer-turned-politician at the Tis Hazari court on Thursday.
Claiming that Gambhir is registered as a voter in two constituencies, Atishi Marlena has sought police investigation into the matter.
She has posted the screengrabs of the data from the Election Commission's website on her official Twitter account, which shows Gautam Gambhir as a registered voter from two constituencies - Rajinder Nagar(39) and Karol Bagh(23). In the tweet, she has stated that 'Gambhir is going to get disqualified sooner or later for having two Voter ID cards".
The BJP candidate, in his election nomination affidavit to the Returning Officer, has stated that he is only registered to vote in the Assembly constituency Rajinder Nagar-39.
"As per Section 17 of The Representation of the People Act, 1950, no person is entitled to be enrolled as a voter in more than one constituency."
Responding to the development, AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal also took to Twitter and asked the voters to not vote Gambhir, alleging that he will get disqualified soon.
East Delhi Lok Sabha seat will witness a compelling triangular contest between three candidates - new entrant cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir, Congress' Arvinder Singh Lovely and AAP candidate Atishi Marlena.
Delhi will see polling in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Phase 6 on May 12. Counting of votes will take place on May 23.
