Ashok Gehlot to be next Rajasthan Chief Minister, Sachin Pilot Deputy CM

After days of speculations and meetings, Congress party on Friday has announced that veteran leader Ashok Gehlot will be the new Chief Minister of Rajasthan. This announcement has come after the recent meeting of Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot with party chief Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders at his residence in New Delhi on Friday.

Furthermore, Sachin Pilot will be the new Deputy Chief Minister of the state and has agreed to continue to head the Rajasthan Congress.

67-year-old Gehlot has served as the Chief Minister of Rajasthan for two terms including 1998 to 2003 and 2008 to 2013.

He was appointed as the first state president of National Student's Union of India, Congress' student wing, after he was identified by former prime minister Indira Gandhi for his organizational skills during one of her visits to the refugee camps. 

He has been the Member of Parliament in the years 1984, 1991, 1996 and 1998. He was elected to the Rajasthan assembly in a by-election after he was made the chief minister in 1998. Furthermore, Gehlot has been the president of the state Congress unit from 1985 to 1989, and from 1994 to 1999 in his extended political career. Prior to becoming the chief minister of the state, he has served as the General Secretary of All India Congress Committee. 

Speaking about Sachin Pilot, he has been the youngest Member of Parliament in the country representing the Ajmer constituency in the 15th Lok Sabha from the Congress party. He was also the Minister of Corporate Affairs, and was appointed as the President of Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee (RPCC).
