"I am Sanjay Gandhi's son..." says Varun Gandhi flaunting his lineage and power while campaigning for mother Maneka Gandhi
BJP Lok Sabha candidate for Pilibhit constituency, Uttar Pradesh and fifth generation Gandhi, Varun Gandhi, on Saturday, stirred controversy by flaunting his lineage and the power he held in Pilibhit while campaigning in Sultanpur. He also took a swipe at his cousin and Congress Chief, Rahul Gandhi.

He also took a swipe at his cousin and Congress Chief, Rahul Gandhi.
The video posted by ANI shows Varun Gandhi addressing a rally saying:
"A man without self-pride is a dead body. I wish to say one thing. You need not fear anyone as the only one to fear is God. There is no one on this earth you need to fear. One should only feel scared for one's crimes and not fear anyone else. I am standing here. I am Sanjay Gandhi's son and I make these people (Congress) open my shoelaces. I am standing here between you and no mother's pet has the courage to open his mouth."
Pilibhit is currently held by Varun Gandhi's mother Maneka Gandhi when she won the seat by winning 52.1% of votes in 2014 when the voter turnout was 62.86%. In 2019, her son Feroze Varun Gandhi as he is officially registered as faces Samajwadi Party's Hemraj Verma who is a one-time MLA from 2012-2017.
Meanwhile, Varun Gandhi is the current Lok Sabha Member for Sultanpur. He had previously won the Pilibhit Lok Sabha constituency in 2009.
While polling in Pilibhit has already been completed on April 23, Sultanpur, where Gandhi's mother Maneka Gandhi is the BJP candidate, will go to polls on May 12 in the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha polls.
Maneka Gandhi who is the Union Minister of Women and Child Development faces Congress Rajya Sabha MP and former Sultanpur Lok Sabha MP Sanjay Singh and BSP candidate Chandrabhadra Singh for the Sultanpur seat.
Results will be announced on May 23.
