Bengaluru Central contender Prakash Raj casts his vote in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Kejriwal and Kanhaiya send their endorsement

As voting in the second phase of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections began, actor-turned-politician Prakash Raj cast his vote on Thursday morning from Bengaluru, Karnataka.

Raj is contesting as an independent candidate from Bengaluru Central constituency in Karnataka for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

In Bengaluru Central, there is a triangular contest between BJP’s sitting MP PC Mohan, Congress’ Rizwan Arshad and Prakash Raj. While it is the maiden election battle for Raj, Mohan will have a face-off with Rizwan Arshad of the Congress for the second time in the constituency.

Ahead of polling, CPI leader Kanhaiya Kumar took to Twitter to extend support to the actor-turned-politician. He said that revolutionary voices are needed in the Parliament.

Kumar further also quoted novelist George Orwell in his tweet:

Earlier, on Wednesday night, Delhi Chief Minister and AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal also took to Twitter to extend best wishes to the political leader of his debut electoral foray. He regarded Raj 'amongst the few people who have had the courage to publicly speak the right thing'.

In Karnataka, these are the 14 seats are undergoing polls on Thursday: Bangalore, Central Bangalore, North Bangalore, Rural Bangalore, South Chamarajnagar, Chikballapur, Chitradurga, Dakshina, Kannada, Hassan, Kolar, Mandya, Mysore, Tumkur, Udupi, and Chikmagalur. The remaining 14 seats will see polling on April 23.

Voting for the 543 Lok Sabha seats is being held in seven phases: April 11, April 18, April 23, April 29, May 6, May 12 and May 19. Counting of votes will take place on May 23.
