Update at 4:50 PM:

Pertaining to the vote count, not flowing in the favour of BJP, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has leveraged this opportunity to lash out at the Centre, claiming that "this is the beginning of BJP's end."

With time, as the votes swing on the side of Congress, Banerjee affirmed her support to the party saying, "Its a big defeat for BJP. We have given full support to Congress and at the end we are together.

She added, "BJP is unconstitutionally using the government agencies for their own motives. People of India have not forgotten demonetisation. People from every section of the society are against BJP. It is the beginning of BJP's end. BJP faced big loss in Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and if the other states go for polls now, BJP will be defeated miserably."

Update at 10:39 AM:

As per current numbers, Congress is overpowering BJP with 57 seats, while the latter trails with 25 seats. Mayawati-Jogi combine holds 5 seats and 1 for Others

17:46 IST, December 11th 2018

In Chhattisgarh, which went to polls in two phases for the 90-member assembly on November 12 and November 20, the BJP via Raman Singh has been in power for over a decade. The state where elections were held first among the five had an overall voter turnout of 74.17 per cent.

The most significant question that was being asked when Chhattisgarh was going to polls was whether the Mayawati-Ajit Jogi alliance could end up playing kingmaker, just as Kumaraswamy and the JD(S) did in Karnataka. And as per the mega poll of polls, it appears that they are in with a shot of doing just that as the BJP and Congress are neck and neck.

Two of the polls are projecting the Congress winning a majority on its own while one projects the same for the BJP. However, the numbers (barring a few cases) are extremely close, and the poll of polls projects that neither party will be able to breach the half-way mark on its own.
