The Aam Admi Party (AAP) accused BJP candidate from North West Delhi, Hans Raj Hans, of concealing information from the Election Commission thus violating the rules of the poll body. Addressing a press briefing on Thursday, AAP leader and Delhi's Social Welfare Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam alleged that Hans Raj Hans cannot contest from the North West Delhi Lok Sabha seat which is a reserved seat since the singer-turned-politician turned to Islam religion in the year 2014.
The Arvind Kejriwal-led party later accused the BJP candidate of “deliberately concealing information from the Election Commission”.
Taking to the micro-blogging platform Twitter, AAP convener and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal also tweeted claiming that Hans Raj Hans is ineligible to fight from a reserved seat (North West Delhi), asking the voters to not waste their votes on him, stating his nomination will be declared ineligible.
The North West Delhi Lok Sabha parliamentary constituency has been reserved for the candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes. In 2019 Lok Sabha polls, North West Delhi will see a triangular battle between AAP's Gugan Singh Ranga, BJP’s Hans Raj Hans and Congress’s Rajesh Lilothia.
Earlier, AAP had alleged that BJP's East Delhi candidate Gautam Gambhir possesses two Voter ID in the national capital.
Delhi will go to polls in the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections on May 12. The counting of votes will take place on May 23.
