‘I have always given primacy to peace and development in our region,’ PM Modi replies to Pakistan PM Imran Khan’s message on his landslide victory

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s thumping victory in the Lok Sabha elections made headlines across the world on Thursday. The heads of various countries congratulated PM Modi for his landslide victory and the PM of our neighboring country, Pakistan, Imran Khan was also one of them. Khan had expressed his intent in working with Modi towards the peace, progress and prosperity in South Asia. The Indian PM conveyed his gratitude to the former cricketer for the wishes and stressed on his focus towards peace and development in the region.

In reply to Khan’s congratulatory message, PM Modi tweeted, “Thank you PM @ImranKhanPTI. I warmly express my gratitude for your good wishes. I have always given primacy to peace and development in our region.” 

Earlier, the former World Cup-winning captain had tweeted, “I congratulate Prime Minister Modi on the electoral victory of BJP and allies. Look forward to working with him for peace, progress and prosperity in South Asia.”

The warm exchange between the two Prime Ministers comes in the wake of heightened conflict between the neighbouring countries following the Pulwama terror attack and India’s retaliatory surgical strike in Balakot. 

Previously, United States of America President Donald Trump, Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, China President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani, Israel PM Benjamin Netanyahu and Sri Lankan PM Ranil Wickremesinghe, among others had conveyed their wishes for PM Modi's victory and expressed their desire for fruitful collaboration towards bilateral relations and other issues. 

On May 23, NDA won 350 seats in the Parliament and became the first non-Congress party to reach such a mark, consecutively after 2014.
