National Conference Chief Omar Abdullah has waded into the controversy surrounding his fellow former J&K CM Mehbooba Mufti's rebuttal to PM Modi over India and Pakistan's nuclear arsenals.
Taking to Twitter, Abdullah has referenced both the other leaders' remarks and said that the threat of nuclear annihilation was being thrown around as though it were PUBG (a popular video game). He says that both PM Modi and Mehbooba Mufti should keep Hiroshima and Nagasaki - the cities in Japan that were devastated in World War 2 in the only real war-time deployment of nuclear weapons - in mind while making such statements:
Omar Abdullah's tweet comes hot on the heels of Mehbooba Mufti tweeting on the matter. She had talked up Pakistan's nuclear arsenal in response to what PM Modi had said in Rajasthan a day earlier that India hadn't 'kept its nuclear bomb for Diwali':
The Prime Minister while addressing an election rally in Barmer had said that the BJP government, unlike the Congress administration, had refused to be intimidated by Pakistan's nuclear threats and had given it a fitting reply through the Balakot air strikes.
“What do we have then? Have we kept our nuclear bomb for Diwali,” he asked while affirming India's nuclear capability and military strength.
Rhetoric over its nuclear-armed status had been frequently employed by Pakistan PM Imran Khan in the aftermath of the Pakistan-perpetrated Pulwama terror attack as a statement of deterrence against reprisal from India. India had responded with the Balakot air strike against Pakistan's terror base.
