With May 23 drawing closer, here's Chetan Bhagat's analysis of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections so far

With just 30 days left for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls result to be announced, celebrated author Chetan Bhagat has stated that this election is really "tough" to predict.

Taking to Twitter on Tuesday when the largest phase of the 2019 polls is underway, Chetan Bhagat further asserted that "tiny moves in vote shares can and will have a huge impact", as the results of the 2019 polls just are almost a month away.

On April 11, the world's largest democratic election began in India for 543 seats in the lower house of parliament, spread across seven phases from April 11 to May 19.

Chetan Bhagat had posted a message for the voters on the day when the first phase of elections began in India. Taking to Twitter, he wrote:

Calling it the "largest festival of democracy", Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora has stated that around 900 million voters are scheduled to place their vote in the 2019 General Elections on around 10 lakh polling stations this year, up from 9 lakh in the last general election in 2014. Furthermore, 15 million of the total electorate will be in the age group of 18 to 19 years.

Meanwhile, the third phase of the ongoing 2019 elections is going on for 117 constituencies spread across 14 states and union territories in total. 

In the last Indian election in 2014, there were more than 830 million registered voters. But only about 553 million Indians, or 66 per cent of the eligible voters then, came out to vote. There were 8,251 candidates from 464 political parties. PM Narendra Modi won with the highest winning margin of all candidates, at 570,128 votes from Vadodara in his home state of Gujarat.
