Asif Bhamla joins the BJP ahead of Maharashtra assembly elections

Asif Bhamla joined the BJP as the state spokesperson of the party ahead of the upcoming assembly polls; he said he will be working for a greater cause

Ahead of the Maharashtra assembly polls, the founder of Bhamla Foundation, Asif Bhamla, on Wednesday has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In the presence of the BJP State President Chandrakant Patil and Minister of School Education, Sports and Youth Welfare of Maharashtra Ashish Shelar, Asif Bhamla joined the party as the state spokesperson.

Asif Bhamla took to Twitter to announce his arrival in the saffron party. He said he is joining the party in order to work for a greater cause for all the sections of the society.

Others who joined BJP 

Former Governor of Maharashtra C Vidyasagar Rao, who recently stepped down from his gubernatorial responsibility, took primary membership of the BJP afresh on Monday. Rao had been a senior BJP leader from Telangana before assuming the responsibility of Maharashtra Governor. He had served as president of the BJP and also the party's floor leader in the assembly in undivided Andhra Pradesh. He had also served as a Union Minister in the NDA government headed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Shivaji Maharaj's descendent and Satara MP Udayanraje Bhosale joined the BJP on September 14 in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah from the NCP.

EC Reviews Poll Preparedness Ahead Of Elections

Election Commission of India (ECI) reviewed poll preparedness on Wednesday, ahead of the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections which are tentatively due in October-November, 2019. Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora along with officials of the state election commission and state police officers met political parties who are vying for the elections.

"Election Commission is looking after the poll preparation. They are meeting with political parties. We told them that the Commission should prepare a plan since Diwali festival is also coinciding. We said that the election should be held in phases. We demanded that the Media Certification Committee should be open 24x7 and approve publicity material quickly. We also requested that expenditure of a candidate should also be increased," Shiv Sena leader Anil Desai told ANI.
