BJP's Sunil Sharma Elected Leader of Opposition in J&K Assembly
A close confidant of Home Minister Amit Shah, Sunil Sharma was elected as the LoP unanimously by party leaders.
Jammu: The Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP ) finalised the name of Sunil Sharma for Leader of Opposition (LoP) in J&K Assembly, during a legislative party meeting in Srinagar on Sunday, November 3.
A close confidant of Home Minister Amit Shah , Sunil Sharma was elected as the LoP unanimously by party leaders. Sunil Sharma is a two-time MLA from Kishtwar district in the Union Territory. Sharma is also in-charge of BJP 's Kashmir unit. While Narinder Singh Raina will serves as the deputy Leader of Opposition in the House.
Further, the first session of assembly will take place on Monday, November 4, with J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha making his opening remarks.
In a significant leadership shift, the BJP , earlier in the day, appointed Sat Sharma as the new President of its Jammu and Kashmir unit following the recent Assembly election results in the region. Sat Sharma will be replacing Ravinder Raina, who has held the position since 2018.
Meanwhile, Ravinder Raina has been appointed as a member of the BJP ’s National Executive.
Notably, upcoming assembly session in the Union Territory will be held tomorrow after a six-year gap.
In the recently concluded Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, the BJP bagged its all-time high of 29 seats in the 90-member House.
