Five states went to polls in November. While polling in Telangana ended on Thursday evening, it was held earlier in the month in Mizoram, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Results of the elections will be declared on December 3.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged the people of Telangana to vote in record numbers in the assembly polls and strengthen the festival of democracy. Polling began at 7AM in the 35,655 polling stations to elect 119 members of the Telangana Legislative Assembly, with voters queuing up to exercise their franchise amid tight security.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said he was confident of a Congress win in the assembly polls, adding that the BJP would not form the government in any of the five states. The Congress in Rajasthan is the only government in the country which has no anti-incumbency factor against it, he stressed.

Earlier on Wednesday, the ruling BJP in Madhya Pradesh alleged that anti-social elements had captured two booths in the Ater assembly constituency of the Bhind district in recent elections and demanded re-polling at these booths. A memorandum was submitted to the MP Chief Electoral Officer demanding that the counting of votes be stopped at booth numbers 11 and 12 (at Khadit) and repolling ordered, a BJP spokesperson said, claiming that the "proof" of booth-capturing was furnished to the Election Commission.

On the other hand, former MP chief minister and senior BJP leader Uma Bharti said she does not "rely" on exit polls. The single-phase election to 230 assembly seats in Madhya Pradesh was held on November 17.

(Methodology of exit polls: The methodology is random stratified sampling using predominantly three techniques - Field surveys, CATI, and IDIs with key people in districts and assembly constituencies. Pollsters then use a probabilistic model to determine the number of seats a party is going to win from the estimated vote share.)
