Haryana polls: Former Indian Hockey captain Sandeep Singh casts vote

BJP's candidate from Pehowa and former Indian Hockey captain Sandeep Singh cast his vote at a polling booth in Haryana's Kurukshetra on Monday, October 21. Sandeep Singh joined the BJP ahead of the Haryana assembly elections in the presence of Haryana BJP Chief Subhash Barala. Voting is underway in the States of Maharashtra and Haryana.

Babita Phogat expressed confidence

Earlier, Bharatiya Janata Party candidate and wrestler Babita Phogat expressed confidence in securing a victory at the Dadri constituency in Haryana as she cast her vote on Monday. The Indian wrestler said she was surprised by her swift shift from sports to politics and said it was the blessings of the people that had got her ahead even in her political career. Vowing to resolve ground issues in her constituency, the CWG medallist said that she would work on issues related to development, water, women's and children's welfare and other such issues that she was sure people would trust her to resolve.

Yogeshwar Dutt casts his vote in Haryana

Another sportsperson who had joined BJP along with Sandeep Singh, Yogeshwar Dutt who is an Olympic medallist and BJP candidate from Baroda constituency in Haryana vowed to resolve issues at the grassroots level as he cast his vote on Monday. Thanking the people for supporting him, Yogeshwar Dutt said that it was essential to resolve issues at the ground level and said that it was necessary to do so as champions emerged from there. Talking about the issues that he was likely going to take up as a politician, Yogeshwar Dutt stressed on the need to resolve water and electricity issues for the people of the constituency and said that as most of the people were farmers by occupation, it was extremely important to address these issues.

8,98,39,600 people eligible to vote

Polling is underway to elect Maharashtra and Haryana Assemblies. In Maharashtra, the BJP and Shiv Sena Alliance are pitted against the Congress and NCP alliance. A total of 8,98,39,600 people, including 4,28,43,635 women are eligible to vote. The Polling will be held from 7 am to 6 pm with tight security arrangements in both the States. The counting will be held on October 24 for both the States. In Maharastra during the last assembly elections, 3,255 candidates contested the elections and the State saw a 64% voter turnout. While Haryana set a new state record with 76.54% voter turnout. 1,351 candidates contested in Haryana in 2014.
