In a surprise win, BJP candidate Katipally Venkata Ramana Reddy defeated outgoing Chief Minister KCR and Telangana Congress President Revanth Reddy from Kamareddy. According to the Election Commission of India (ECI) results, KVR defeated KCR by 6,741 votes and Revanth Reddy by 11,736 votes. After his party was wiped out by the Congress, KCR was dealt with another heavy blow as he lost from his 'janma bhumi.' Thus, his dream of returning to power for the third consecutive time came to an end.
Earlier, KVR Reddy had said that PM Modi's rally across Kamareddy would strike a special chord with the people in the North Telangana constituency. During the campaigning, KVR fought on the grounds of corruption in the district, promising to provide free education and medical facilities.
From one seat in 2019 to leading in nine seats, BJP has come a long way and would look to carry this momentum in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in a state and region, which the saffron party had eyed for a long time.
