BREAKING | Congress MP Rahul Gandhi to Represent Rae Bareli, Forego Wayanad Seat: Sources

New Delhi: Ending weeks of speculations, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi who got a thumping mandate in both Wayanad and Rae Bareli seats in the Lok Sabha election 2024 has decided to represent the Rae Bareli seat, claimed sources in the party fold on Saturday. 

The former Congress President won the Rae Bareli seat by a margin of 3.90 lakh votes and emerged victorious from the Wayanad seat by a margin of 3.6 lakh votes. 

The party sources further revealed that Congress is planning to field a local Kerala Congress worker from the Wayanad seat after it becomes vacant with Rahul Gandhi's resignation. 

The sentiment in the Gandhi bastion for Rahul Gandhi to retain Rae Bareli thrived since he won the seat, given his family’s decade-old ties with the constituency.

Since 1999, the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha constituency has been represented by the Congress and was won by Sonia Gandhi in 2019. Sonia Gandhi handed over the traditional seat to her son Rahul after she moved to the Rajya Sabha earlier this year.

Rae Bareli was the only Lok Sabha constituency the Congress won in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in UP.
