MP Election Results 2023: BJP set to form govt as it crosses majority mark with wins in 122 seats

The BJP has crossed the majority mark of 116 and is set to form government in Madhya Pradesh. According to the Election Commission, the BJP has won 122 constituencies and is leading in 42 others. The Congress party has won in 36 constituencies and is leading in 29. 

“People have accepted the leadership and the development model of PM Modi...BJP has been successful in getting a huge mandate in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh,” UP CM Yogi Adityanath said.

“This shows that people will support BJP and Narendra Modi Ji will become the Prime Minister for the third time,” he further said. 

Speaking exclusively to Republic after the BJP swept Madhya Pradesh, “Under PM Modi's leadership, there has been unprecedented development in Madhya Pradesh in the last 18 years. The state believes in the BJP and loves the party. The thumping mandate is the magic of a double-engine government.”

Incumbent Chief Minister and BJP candidate from Budhni, Shivraj Singh Chouhan won by a margin of 1,04,974 votes, garnering a total of 1,64,951 votes.

"We accept the decision of voters of Madhya Pradesh in this contest for democracy. I congratulate BJP and hope that they will live up to the support people have given them," says senior Congress leader Kamal Nath. "I always said that I have faith in voters of Madhya Pradesh, and that I do even today. I hope that BJP will betray the people," he added.

A clash broke out between BJP and Congress workers in Madhya Pradesh's Shajapur. The police lathi-charged to disperse the cadres.

Shajapur ASP TS Baghel said, "The counting process has been completed peacefully. Some BJP and Congress supporters were raising slogans. Police immediately reached there, the situation is peaceful now..."

BJP supporters and workers hail Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan as the party leads towards a landslide win in the state, in Bhopal. 

Madhya Pradesh: A staffer at CM House, Radha Bai turned emotional as she gave a flower to CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan and congratulated him. CM Chouhan is leading in his constituency Budhni and the party is leading on 161 seats in the state.

Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan and state BJP president VD Sharma exchanged sweets and hugged each other as the party gained huge lead in the state. 

Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar is leading by a tight margin of 635 votes from the Dimani constituency in Madhya Pradesh. 

MP: State Congress president and candidate from Chhindwara, Kamal Nath leading by a margin of 15,623 votes after the ninth round of counting, garnering a total of 57895 votes so far.

Incumbent CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan said, "Modi ji MP ke mann mein hain aur Modi ji ke mann mein MP hai. He held public rallies here and appealed to the people and that touched people's hearts. These trends are a result of that. Double-engine government properly implemented the schemes of the Central Government and the schemes that were formed here also touched people's hearts. Madhya Pradesh became a family...I had said earlier too that the BJP would get a comfortable and grand majority as people's love for us was visible everywhere."

As BJP crosses the halfway mark and leads on 133 seats in the state as per official EC trends, Madhya Pradesh BJP president VD Sharma said, "We had said 'Madhya Pradesh ke mann mein Modi aur Modi ke mann mein Madhya Pradesh' - people blessed this drive...I am proud that with the work of booth-level workers of the BJP, we are fulfilling the resolution of 51% voting in every booth. I am proud of BJP workers, people have blessed PM Modi."

• Chhindwara: Congress's Kamal Nath leading by 4034 votes.
• Pandhurna: Congress leading by 5187 votes.
• Chaurai: Congress leading by 729 votes. 
• Amarwada: BJP leading by 2500 votes. 
• Sausar: Congress is ahead by 1046 votes. 
• Junnardev; BJP ahead of Congress. 
• Parasia: Congress leading ahead of BJP. 

With ongoing election results 2023, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia reached at Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's residence. 

Former CM and Congress leader Kamal Nath is trailing by around 192 votes from the Chhindwara constituency. 

Bharatiya Janata Party has crossed the halfway mark, as per early trends, with leading momentum in 119 seats. Whereas, the Congress is leading on 95 seats.

State BJP president VD Sharma said, "I believe that the BJP will win the most seats till this date and create history... The development will be under the leadership of PM Modi."

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has gained leading momentum on 109 seats, as per the early trends. Whereas, the Congress party is leading on 90 seats.  

Veteran BJP leader and four-time chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is leading as the counting of votes is underway. His competitor from the Congress - Vikram Mastal is trailing.

Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh said, "I had said this earlier and I say it today as well - 130 plus. We are getting 130 seats, rest is to be seen." On incumbent CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan, he said, "Not only is his farewell certain but his 'achhe din' also ends here."

The counting of votes for the Madhya Pradesh Assembly Elections 2023 has begun, the election commission said. 

Ahead of counting of votes for MP Election 2023, State minister and BJP leader Narottam Mishra said, "We will win 125-150 seats in the state. BJP will form govt in the state. It is a matter of a few hours now."

Preparations are underway at the counting centre in Bhopal as the counting of votes will begin shortly.

CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan contested the assembly election from Budhni constituency whereas his rival and Congress leader Kamal Nath is defending his home-turf Chhindwara. 

While the CM is up against Congress party's Vikram Mastal, Nath is defending his seat against BJP's Vivek Banti Sahu.
