Maharashtra: NCP-Cong release manifesto, here are the important points

The Congress-NCP alliance in Maharashtra released their manifesto ahead of the Assembly polls. The manifesto promised farm loan waiver and other things as well.

Ahead of the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly Elections, the Congress-NCP alliance released their manifesto on October 7, in Mumbai. The manifesto made plenty of populist promises including waiver on farm loan, education loan and employment for the youth. The Congress-NCP alliance will lock horns with the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance in the Assembly elections along with other smaller parties in the state.

No interest on loan for higher studies: Congress-NCP manifesto

The manifesto made several promises, here are some of the most important points from the list:

  • A complete waiver of the farm loan which has been the central issue in Maharashtra for a long time now
  • The manifesto also included zero interest on student loans for higher studies and also promised to upgrade the existing curriculum to meet the changing needs 
  • Establish government engineering and medical colleges in every district of Maharashtra
  • New Bill to ensure 80% of jobs for local youth in new industries
  • Revision of high penalties under the new Motor Vehicle Act which have received a lot of criticism in the recent past
  • The Congress-NCP manifesto has also promised quality healthcare, measures to ensure gender equality at the workplace, environmental protection and quality education for all

Maharashtra Assembly Elections 

The Maharashtra Assembly elections which are scheduled to be held on October 21, will witness the Indian National Congress (INC) and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) contest as an alliance. According to the formula, out of the total 288 seats, the Congress will contest for 144 and the NCP will contest for 122 seats whereas the remaining seats will be contested by other parties in the alliance. Notably, the Assembly Elections will also witness Aaditya Thackeray become the first member of the Thackeray family to contest polls. Aaditya will contest from Worli constituency as Shiv Sena's candidate. The results of the Maharashtra Assembly Elections will be announced on October 24.
