MASSIVE: Congress to move SC seeking to replace Karnataka pro tem Speaker with its own MLA and petitions for floor test to be held in different lobbies

Republic TV has accessed a draft copy of the Congress' petition that is to be submitted to the Supreme Court registrar against the appointment of BJP MLA KG Bopaiah as pro tem Speaker of the Karnataka Assembly.

The prayer in the petition is as follows:

That the Supreme Court:

a) Passes an appropriate order setting aside the appointment of KG Bopaiah as pro tem Speaker

b) Passes an appropriate order appointing RV Deshpande, the senior most MLA of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, as the pro tem Speaker

c) Passes an appropriate order directing that the voting in the floor test has to be carried out by division by segregating the MLAs supporting and opposing the Motion in different lobbies in the house

d) Passes an appropriate order declaring that the pro tem Speaker perform only those duties indicated by this honourable court in order dated May 18 and further restrain the pro tem Speaker from disqualifying any elected candidate

e) Passes an appropriate order directing the pro tem Speaker to video-record the proceedings of the State Legislative Assembly held on May 19 and submit a copy of the video recording to this Honourable court.

f) Passes any other order as this Honourable Court may deem fit in the interests of justice

At the time of publishing, a legal team of the Congress party is said to be stationed at the Supreme Court registrar in order to ensure that the plea is able to be filed.
