With the dates for the all-important Lok Sabha polls now announced, the various political parties and the citizens of India have complete clarity on exactly when the country will once again undertake the largest exercise in democracy anywhere in the world.
To present a snapshot projection of where the various parties stand at the moment in different states, Republic TV and CVoter have published the National Approval Ratings which present a complete picture of what would happen if elections are held today.
Here are the projections for Rajasthan:
Seat-share
UPA- 5
NDA- 20
Vote-share
UPA- 41.6%
NDA- 51.8%
Others 6.6%
Compared to the previous National Approval Rating, the projections, the numbers have stooped lower for the Congress-led UPA with a mere 5 seats while NDA is known to garner 20 seats.
Despite winning the Hindi heartland, the vote-share predictions depict 41.6% for UPA, 51.5% for NDA and 6.6% for Others.
BJP made a clean sweep in Rajasthan by winning all the seats
The predictions have favoured the BJP-led NDA who secured 18 seats in the January edition of National Approval Rating and rose to 20 in the March edition.
The Congress government in Rajasthan faced domestic issues within three months of taking charge, with the continual protests of the Gujjar community demanding for reservation. Eventually conceding to the demands, 5% reservation was given by the Kamal Nath government, and recently even announced to increase the quota for Other Backward Class (OBC) from 14% to 27%
Along with that, the sting conducted by Republic into the 1984 riots brought to surface chief minister Kamal Nath's involvement in igniting the anti-Sikh riots, which evidently caused ripples and is reflecting in the Madhya Pradesh projections for UPA.
The months preceding the latest National Approval Ratings have witnessed a number of massive developments that may have a big impact on the on-ground sentiment as the phase-wise voting approaches. A parallel CVoter survey has already indicated that citizens' satisfaction with the performance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been on an upswing since the Feb 1 budget where a number of significant announcements were made - especially for farmers and for middle-class taxpayers. This satisfaction index the skyrocketed following India's air-strike against Pakistani terror bases across the LoC. Simultaneously, the satisfaction index of Congress president Rahul Gandhi has spiralled downward in the same time-frame.
