Kareena Kapoor has delivered exceptional performances in movies like Jab We Met from 2007, 3 Idiots from 2009, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham... from 2001, and many more. Bebo has a reputation for being outspoken and has reportedly spoken about rejecting a lot of films throughout her career. Some of these films went on to do massive business at the box-office and even helped launch other actors to stardom. Here are five such movies which could have magnified Kareena Kapoor’s legacy.
Black (2005)
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Black which came out in 2005 starred Amitabh Bachchan and Rani Mukherjee. Rani's role was reportedly earlier offered to Kareena Kapoor. The film dealt with the story of a blind girl and her teacher who developed Alzheimer’s disease. The film did exceptionally well at the theatres and was critically very well received. The film was even the highest-earning Indian film in the overseas market for that year.
Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003)
2003’s Karan Johar produced Kal Ho Naa Ho was a massive hit which starred Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Preity Zinta. Preity's role was what was offered to Kareena Kapoor before. The movie was the highest-earning Bollywood film of that year and was very well received critically. In his book, Karan Johar mentioned how Kareena was offered the role but she reportedly wanted to be paid as much as Shah Rukh Khan and that’s where the discussions fell through. Preity Zinta received favourable reviews for her depiction of Naina in this movie.
Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999)
Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam from 1999 which launched Aishwarya Rai to stardom was originally supposed to cast Kareena Kapoor. The director approached a young Kapoor for the role but Kareena was reportedly looking to pursue higher education and hence could not commit to the role. The film went on to get 16 nominations at the 45th Filmfare awards. It starred Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn, and Aishwarya Rai in place of Kareena Kapoor.
Goliyon Ki RasLeela Ram-Leela(2013)
Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Kareena Kapoor were linked up yet again for the 2013 adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. While Kapoor signed up for the film and told interviewers about how excited she was to finally be working with Bhansali, she left the film before the filming began. Instead of the Bhansali movie, Bebo chose to work on Gori Tere Pyaar Mein instead. In an interview, she addressed this by talking about how all of her decisions depend on her mood and although she signed up for Ram-Leela, the movie did not feel right to her. Deepika Padukone, who replaced Kareena in the movie, achieved a lot of acclaim for the acting and dancing skills she demonstrated in the film.
Queen (2014)
Anurag Kashyap produced Queen from 2014 starred Kangana Ranaut as a young spinster who travels to Paris and Amsterdam for her what was supposed to be her honeymoon, alone after her fiance calls off the wedding. The film earned ₹ 108 crores at the box-office and proved to be a critical and commercial success. Kangana Ranaut was awarded the Best Actor (Female) Award at the 62nd National Film Awards ceremony. Kareena was originally offered the role but rejected it because she could not relate to the script.
