Actor Vicky Kaushal Reacts To The #MeToo Movement, Says It Is High Time Something Like This Happened

Inspired by the west, the #MeToo movement has gained traction in India with several women speaking up against and pointing out sexual perpetrators. It began when former Bollywood actress Tanushree Dutta accused actor Nana Patekar of sexual harassment  on the sets of the 2008 film 'Horn Ok Pleasss'. The case became a huge deal with the help of social media as opposed to the time Dutta had made the allegations in the year 2008. Thereafter several Bollywood celebrities have taken a stand on the matter and condemned sexual harassment in workplace. Until now, several eminent personalities from the Indian film industry have also been accused of sexual harassment including Alok Nath, Rajat Kapoor, Varun Grover, Karim Morani, Sajid Khan, Luv Ranjan and Vikas Bahl to name a few.

Several Bollywood celebrities have expressed their opinion on the matter and their stand on the same. 'Masaan' actor Vicky Kaushal, while speaking about the #MeToo movement at the India  Film Project said that it is an important cultural shift and it is amazing to see so many women  coming out with their stories of what happened to them. He further said that it  does not  matter whether it is one day or one year or ten years or 100 years and that it  is still very difficult for women to come out with a story like this and place it in front of the entire world in its most naked form.

The 'Sanju' actor also said that the least we can do is to hear them and give them a platform and dignity to say what happened with them and assure them that it will be taken seriously. The actor concluded by saying that it is high time something like this happened.

Filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane too was present on the panel, but chose to not comment on the movement. The filmmaker also did not speak anything about his  former Phantom Films partner Vikas Bahl sending notice to him. Vikas Bahl was accused of sexual harassment by a female employee who worked for the now dissolved production house- Phantom Films. After the accusations were out, Motwane and Anurag Kashyap, who were partners of Phantom Films, called out at Bahl.
