The Mumbai Police has taken action in relation to Dilip Kumar-Saira Banu’s property case on a day there was support pouring in for the veteran couple on Twitter.
The Economic Offences Wing of the Mumbai Police on Wednesday said that a charge sheet will soon be filed with regards to the alleged harassment of the couple by builder Samir Bhojwani.
After directions from the Maharashtra Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the Mumbai Police on Wednesday expedited the investigation into the matter. The force also moved the Bombay High Court seeking quashing of Bhojwani’s bail in another case.
Several Twitter users took to the microblogging platform on the same, following which ‘Justice for Dilip Kumar’ started trending. Users wrote about the ‘legend and pride of our nation‘ being threatened by a ‘land mafia’ ‘heart-wrenching.’
One wrote how it was important for the country to stand with him when he has done so much for the nation, while some blamed the ‘lack of proper procedure’ for the controversy. A person called it a ‘disgrace’ that Dilip Kumar had to go through this.
Saira Banu through Dilip Kumar’s official Twitter account had requested a meeting with the Prime Minister after Bhojwani was released from jail. She had written about the lack of action against him despite assurances from Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Banu rued how the Padma Vibhushan awardee was 'betrayed' and 'threatened by money and muscle power.'
Later, an official from the Maharastra Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) had confirmed that the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) had taken a note of the matter.
However, the yesteryear actress was not pleased and tweeted again on Tuesday that she was awaiting an appointment to meet the PM and was tired of ‘repeated assurances’ by the CM. She ‘begged’ that the PM was the last hope of protecting Dilip Kumar’s house.
Saira Banu had accused Bhojwani of forging documents to grab their bungalow in Bandra, Mumbai and filed a complaint against him, following which he was arrested.
