Bala starring Ayushmann Khurrana is a story about a man in his early thirties who suffers from premature balding. The film is yet another satirical dark comedy portraying India's most pressing, ongoing issues. Bala can be counted amongst several Indian movies which have concerned themselves with realistic issues in the past. Read on for more details about this newest dark comedy and other such movies in the genre that have done well at the box-office and also received critical acclaim.

Bala: The newest addition to the dark comedy genre

Bala's movie teaser addresses the issue of premature balding in men. It is faced by several individuals across different age cohorts. The teaser’s fun yet dark approach towards the issue is brought about by Ayushmann Khurrana's imitation of Shah Rukh Khan from his famous song Koi Na Koi Chahiye from Deewana (1992), but while imitating the superstar, Ayushmann wears a cap to cover his bald head. However, a gust of wind makes his cap fly off which makes him switch to imitating another legend Rajesh Khanna's famous song Rehne Do from Kati Patang (1971).

In the movie's teaser, the two actresses of the film - Bhumi Pednekar and Yami Gautam were missing. Bhumi will be essaying the role of Ayushmann's girlfriend. While Yami's character is of a model dealing with her own insecurities. Since the teaser did not reveal their characters, it will be interesting to see how would their characters react to premature balding and their chemistry with the leading man.

Amongst other films of the genre in the past, Rajkumar Hirani’s PK (2014) is a blockbuster which deals with an alien getting to know India and raising thought-provoking questions while finding a way back to his original home. Similarly, the Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal starrer, OMG! Oh My God! (2012) is a movie about an atheist suing God after his antique shop is destroyed by an earthquake.

Both the movies had its own set of controversies that positively impacted the sale of tickets since it made audiences even more curious about their storylines. Now, all eyes are on this satirical comedy Bala,, regarding its performance at the box-office. Will it be another addition to Ayushmann Khuranna’s list of successful films?
