A. Margarita with a Straw (2014)
The movie, starring Kalki Koechlin and Revathy in the lead, narrated an enduring tale of a mother and her disabled daughter. Directed by Shonali Bose, the movie was a box office debacle but was highly applauded by the critics. The lead actor Kalki Koechlin earned a special mention in the 63rd Indian National Awards for her portrayal of Laila (her character's name in the film).
B. Antardwand (2008)
Set in Bihar, the movie narrated the tale of a disturbing social issue. The movie, starring Raj Singh Chaudary and Swati Sen in the lead, was directed by Sushil Rajpal. The movie won the National Award for the best film that year. It was highly appreciated by directors Imtiaz Ali and Raju Hirani.
C. Ugly (2013)
The movie narrated the tale of human emotions and uncontained desires released in 2013. Directed by Anurag Kashyap, the movie was applauded by the critics for its gritty screenplay and flawed central characters. Ugly starring Rohit Bhatt, Ronit Roy in the lead, makes for a perfect rewatch for its commendable storytelling.
D. The Last Lear (2008)
The movie released on September 12, 2008, starred Amitabh Bachchan and Preity Zinta in the lead roles. The movie was based on Utpal Dutt's semi-autobiographical play Aajker Shahjahan. Directed by Rituparno Ghosh, the movie could not attract audiences to the theatre but was lauded by critics for its story and the performance of the lead actors.
E. That Girl in Yellow Boots (2011)
The movie starring in Kalki Koechlin and Naseeruddin Shah in the lead was released on September 2, 2011. Directed by Anurag Kashyap, the movie narrated the tale of a British woman in search of her biological father. The movie was a box office debacle, but Kalki's portrayal as a masseur in the film had received accolades from the critcs.
