Ajaz Khan has been sent to police custody till Saturday after the actor was arrested for posting an objectionable video on social media.
Khan was taken into custody on Thursday after a case was registered against him for posting an objectionable video on the social media app TikTok. The DCP of Mumbai confirmed Khan's arrest and shared that the Cyber Police had held him over various sections.
Police said that the video created ‘hatred among public at large’ and promoted ‘enmity on grounds of religion.’
The official statement read, “Cyber Crime Police Station, Mumbai had received a complaint along with few videos which have gone viral on social media. It was found that Ajaz Khan created/uploaded these videos with objectionable contents mainly promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion etc, created hatred among public at large.
It continued, "After due enquiry, on 17/07/2019, a case has been registered against Ajaz Khan, vide Cr 36/2019, U/S 153 A, 34 IPC, and 67 IT Act. He has been arrested in this case and further investigation is being done by Cyber Crime Police Station, Mumbai.”
Khan has been accused of featuring in a video with TikTok ‘superstars’ to mock the Mumbai Police after they filed a case against them for allegedly posting an inflammatory video in relation to Tabrez Ansari's lynching in Jharkhand. The group’s TikTok handle has since then been suspended.
Filmmaker and President of Indian Films and TV Directors Association, Ashoke Pandit had also lodged a complaint with the Juhu Police regarding the same. Khan, known for ‘Bigg Boss’, among other TV shows and films, has been controversy’s favourite child over the years.
Most recently, he was booked for assaulting a model at an event in May. Previously, he was arrested for sending objectionable photos to a woman in 2016. He was held for possession of drugs in October 2018.
