Bollywood sequels of 2019 that became instant box office hits

Bollywood has seen the release of multiple sequels in the year 2019. Some have managed to hit the bulls eye, while the others have missed the sweet spot

The year 2019 has been a mixed bag for the Hindi film industry. On the one hand, content-heavy films such as Uri: The Surgical Strike, Dream Girl, Chhichhore and many others won critical acclaim and achieved commercial success, while on the other hand, Bollywood also witnessed the release of numerous sequels. Some of these sequels went onto do great business at the box-office.

Here are the Bollywood sequels of 2019

1. Total Dhamaal 

Total Dhamaal was the latest instalment in the Dhamaal franchise. The film was directed by Indra Kumar and was a co-production between FoxStar Hindi, Ajay Devgn FFilms and Indra Kumar's Maruti International. Total Dhamaal was a reboot of the 2007 film, Dhamaal and retained actors Arshad Warsi, Riteish Deshmukh and Javed Jaffrey from the previous two films, while Ajay Devgn, Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit were the new cast members. The film released on February 22, 2019, and was highly successful at the box-office.

2. Student of the Year 2

Student of the Year 2 was the second instalment of the Student of the Year franchise. The first film was directed by Karan Johar and was the launchpad for actors Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt and Sidharth Malhotra. Soty 2 was directed by Puneet Malhotra and had Tiger Shroff in the lead role, with actors Ananya Panday and Tara Sutaria debuting in Bollywood with the film.

3. Housefull 4

Housefull 4 is the fourth instalment in the popular comedy franchise. Directed by Farhad Samji, the first features series regulars Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh and Chunky Pandey. Actors Bobby Deol, Kriti Kharbanda, Pooja Hegde and Kriti Sanon are the new entrants in the franchise. The reincarnation-comedy released on the festival of Diwali and has emerged as a box-office hit, although it received dismal reviews from the critics. 

4. Dabangg 3

Dabangg 3 is one of the most highly anticipated films of 2019. The third instalment of the Dabangg franchise is directed by Prabhu Deva. Salman Khan reprises his now-iconic role of the quirky but corrupt police officer, Chulbul Pandey, and Sonakshi Sinha returns as his love interest. Kannada actor Kiccha Sudeep is the primary antagonist of the film and Mahesh Manjrekar's daughter, Saiee Manjrekar, makes her debut with this film. Dabangg 3 is scheduled to release on December 20.
