Bollywood has experimented with several genres over the years, and horror has been a significant one in recent years. Bollywood has given some great spine-chilling films until now. In the past as well, many movies scared us while watching them. Some of those movies still scare the bejeezus out of us after all this time. Here is a list of some Bollywood horror films, that you should definitely watch.

Tumbbad

This movie released in 2018 is based on a novel titled Tumbadche Khot written by Narayan Pendse. Reportedly, the movie was shot more than twice and faced several issues before being finally released. It is one of the modern-day spectacles when it comes to horror in Bollywood. It managed to spook out audiences and have a lasting impact on anyone who watched the film. The film was made on a budget of approximately ₹5 crores but went on to earn an estimated ₹13.57 crores at the box office. 

Makdee

Makdee is one of the most amazing horror-thrillers Bollywood ever made. The portrayal of a witch by Shabana Azmi was perfect and gave nightmares to younger audiences. The film was released in 2002 and was directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. The movie didn't do well at the box office and earned about a crore, however, the fans loved the movie and still praise this movie.

Darna Mana Hai

Darna Mana Hai was one of the scariest amalgamations of six short stories, in one. The film was directed by Ram Gopal Varma and was an experimental film for 2003. The film had incredibly spooky scenes and managed to scare audiences. The film had a budget of ₹5 crores and went on to earn approximately ₹6 crores, the fans loved the movies regardless of its numbers. The film got a sequel titled Darna Zaroori Hai which was claimed by makers to be scarier than the first part.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa

The 2007 Bhool Bhulaiyaa film starring Akshay Kumar was probably one of the best psychological thrillers. According to fans, Vidya Balan delivered one of the best performances in the film and gave the audiences chills each time she made an appearance as the alleged 'ghost' in the house. The estimated budget on which the movie was made was ₹84 crores and earned ₹30 crores on the box office. The film was directed by Priyadarshan in 2007, the film is now set to get a remake directed by Anees Bazmee and will release in 2020.

Phoonk

One of the creepiest movies that dealt with black magic was Ram Gopal Varma’s 2008 film, Phoonk. The film was made to be so scary that the director placed a challenge, to pay anyone 5 lakhs if they were to watch the entire film alone in the theatre. The movie still manages to provide jump scares and chills even today. The film had a budget of approximately ₹5 crores and went on to earn ₹10 crores at the box office.
