Box Office Report: Independence Day Releases, 'Gold' Versus 'Satyamev Jayate'

Independence Day Weekend this year saw two big releases - Akshay Kumar starrer 'Gold' and John Abraham's 'Satyamev Jayate'. Both the films seems to have fared pretty well at the box office benefitted by the long extended weekend. While both 'Gold' and 'Satyamev Jayate' has got mixed response from the critics and the audiences, its Akshay Kumar's 'Gold' that outshined John Abraham's 'Satyamev Jayate'.

Akshay Kumar starrer 'Gold' opened up at a reported amount of Rs.25.25 crores has so far collected Rs.71.30 crores reportedly in five days. Whereas John Abraham's 'Satyamev Jayate' that opened at a reported amount of  Rs.20.52 crores has so far collected Rs.56.91 crores reportedly making it the fifth highest opener of the year, while 'Gold' became the third highest opener of the year 2018. 

However, the second day didn't prove out to be any fruitful as both the films saw a drastic decline in their collection. After a massive opening, 'Gold' fell down to Rs.8.10 crores on the second day and 'Satyamev Jayate' summed up at Rs.7.92 crores on Day 2. 

But the fate outshined on both the films on next 3 days as both 'Gold' and 'Satyamev Jayate' saw a gradual rise in figures from Day 3 to Day 5.  According to the trade analyst Taran Adarsh, 'Gold', collected Rs.10.10 crores, Rs.12.30 crores and Rs.15.55 crores on Friday, Saturday and Sunday respectively, 'Satyamev Jayate' collected Rs.9.18 crores, Rs. 9.03 crores and Rs.10.26 crores consecutively. 

Directed by Reema Kagti, 'Gold' lead by Akshay Kumar is the story of Independent India's first Olympic gold medal and the honour was brought by Indian Men's Hockey team on August 12, 1948. The film consists of an ensemble cast that includes Kunal Kapoor, Amit Sadh, Mouni Roy, Sunny Kaushal and Nikita Dutta. 

Meanwhile, 'Satyamev Jayate' directed by Milap Zaveri, stars John Abraham alongside Manoj Bajpai. Igniting the feeling of patriotism, 'Satyamev Jayate' sees John Abraham and Manoj Bajpai pitted against each other while fighting the same evil enemy. 

John Abraham is currently shooting in Gulmarg, Kashmir for his next film 'Romeo Akbar Aur Walter: RAW'. The actor even decided to not celebrate the success of the film owing to the recent floods in Kerala.
