If you love the sweet smell of old books, then here's something sure to bring a big smile on your face. Bengaluru’s second-hand bookshops are a cult favourite for decades now. While each one has its strategy to survive, together they form a pleasurable hub for book lovers. Get ready to lose yourself in these four pleasurable hubs in the city.
Select Bookshop
Located in the busy lanes of Brigade road, Select is a book shop which is over 70 years old. The shop has been hailed as city’s finest antiquarian bookshop. The bookshop is filled with grey shelves which have a wide variety of books arranged in no particular order. The store also houses hard copies of Walter Scott poems printed in 1900. You can also find rare books on topics like anthropology and steam locomotives.
Blossom Book House
Opened in 2001, the Blossom book house is now one of the best and the biggest second-hand book stores in the city. The new store has stationery, toys, board games and a reading corner for book lovers. The shop is located at No. 84/6, Church Street, Opposite Amoeba, Haridevpur, Shanthala Nagar. While your kids can have fun with some playdough, you can browse books of your choice at the bookstore.
Goobe’s Book Republic
Started in 2008 by Ravi Menezes, Goobe’s sells a combination of secondhand and new books. This is where you must head if you love to keep signed copies of your favourite authors. The bookstore allows you to interact with the librarians. The little basement shop is well known for the brilliant crime novels and science fiction. You can also find illustrated children’s books and cookbooks at this bookstore.
The Bookworm
The Bookworm is not a fashionable book store like others. The store is known for its collection of the books on Birth of Venus and Amitav Ghosh’s Ibis trilogy. A new addition to the store is a huge hall on the second floor, which is used for book launches and readings. The store is located at No. 1 Church Street, opposite Starbucks Coffee and is famous for classic detective collection.
